SOC 2 compliance

Write the controls behind Security and every optional category you report on, tie each one to its evidence and owner, and give your auditor a read-only seat at the same record.

No credit card. 30-day free trial.

Your SOC 2 program on one record

Run your whole SOC 2 program on one platform, with every control connected to the evidence that proves it.

Evidence management

Upload evidence by hand, bring it in from AWS, GCP, and Azure integrations, or push it from your pipeline with the Openlane client. Each artifact stays tied to the control it demonstrates and carries a renewal date.

  • AWS, GCP, and Azure integrations
  • Command-line client and API for pipeline uploads

Workflow automation

Rule-based workflows trigger from program events, so a control owner hears about an expiring artifact or a new task without anyone chasing them.

  • Slack and email notifications
  • Tasks assigned to the control owner

Policy templates

Start from SOC 2-aligned policy templates and edit them to match how your team works. Each policy links to the controls it supports.

  • Security, access, and incident response policies
  • Each policy linked to the controls it supports

Audit-ready reports

Track which evidence your auditor has accepted, export what they ask for, and give them a read-only seat at the record instead of a shared drive.

  • Track evidence acceptance
  • Auditor access (read-only role)
  • Evidence export

Open source

Compliance you can inspect, deploy, and extend. The source is open, so you see exactly how every control works and can shape it to how your program runs.

  • Self-host the open-source project
  • Download your data and evidence

Built to extend

Write controls in your own language, add the frameworks your customers ask for, and reach everything over the same API the console runs on.

  • Custom controls and frameworks
  • API-first, with webhooks and a command-line client

Frequently asked questions

SOC 2 basics

What is SOC 2 compliance?

SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls 2) is an attestation framework from the AICPA for service organizations that handle customer data. An independent CPA firm evaluates your controls against the Trust Services Criteria, which cover Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy. Security is required in every report; the other four are optional.

What is the difference between SOC 2 Type I and Type II?

A Type I report evaluates whether your controls are suitably designed at a point in time. A Type II report covers a period, commonly three to twelve months, and tests whether those controls operated effectively throughout it. Enterprise customers usually ask for Type II.

What are the five Trust Services Criteria?

The Trust Services Criteria are organized into five categories. Security covers protection against unauthorized access and is required in every report. Availability covers whether the system is accessible for operation and use. Processing Integrity covers whether processing is complete, valid, accurate, and timely. Confidentiality covers protection of information designated confidential. Privacy covers how personal information is collected, used, retained, disclosed, and disposed of.

Who needs SOC 2 compliance?

SOC 2 is common for B2B SaaS companies, cloud service providers, and any organization that processes or stores customer data. Enterprise customers often ask for a SOC 2 report before signing or renewing a contract.

Timeline and process

How long does SOC 2 attestation take?

It depends on how much of the program already exists and which report you need. A Type I report can follow once controls are designed and documented. A Type II report covers an observation period you and your auditor agree on, commonly three to twelve months, so the timeline runs at least that long.

What is a SOC 2 audit report?

A SOC 2 report is issued by an independent CPA firm. It includes your description of the system, the auditor's opinion on the design and operating effectiveness of your controls, the tests performed and their results, and any exceptions found.

What evidence is required for SOC 2?

Auditors ask for policies and procedures, access control records, change management records, monitoring output, incident response documentation, vendor assessments, risk assessments, background checks, and training records. In Openlane, each of those artifacts stays tied to the control it demonstrates, with a renewal date, so the request list maps to records you already keep.

Openlane for SOC 2

How does Openlane help with SOC 2 compliance?

Openlane connects each control to the evidence that proves it, so a SOC 2 audit becomes a matter of pointing your auditor at what's already there instead of assembling it under deadline. Every control tracks against its proof and its owner, and your auditor reads the same record through a read-only role. The opinion is still theirs to issue.

How is Openlane different from Vanta or Drata?

Openlane keeps vendor risk, access reviews, and evidence on the same record as your controls, includes unlimited frameworks and unlimited users on published pricing, and publishes the source, so you can inspect how each control works or run the project yourself. Compare current packaging with each vendor directly.

Can Openlane help maintain compliance between audits?

Openlane keeps each control tied to its evidence and its renewal date, so a gap surfaces as an artifact that needs renewing rather than a surprise in the next audit. Recurring reviews and attestations run as campaigns, and the record your auditor read last year is the one your team keeps working in.
